When I was at high school (an all-girl high school), there were only a few ‘opportunities’ as far as careers went, for girls –
- A teacher
- A nurse
- A biologist
I can’t think of any others we had talks on, but no-one EVER mentioned setting up your own business. Yes, you could work in a shop if you wanted to, but to own one? Nahh!
I’d always wanted to be an actress (that was allowed) so started drama classes at college when I left school.
It didn’t work out for me as I had my son, so I just stayed at home with him until I was 27.
It was at that time I got into nursing (just like we were told we could be as a girl!) and carried on with this career blindly for over 30 years.
Don’t get me wrong, I did love my career and became a ward sister, then clinical nurse specialist in respiratory medicine, but I always felt I was ‘missing’ something.
At one point, about 15 years ago, I had a lot of stress (both in work and outside of work) and became quite depressed and lost my confidence.
One day, whilst reading a magazine, I came across an advertisement for a course in ‘Confidence‘. It was set in London for a whole weekend, but having discussed it with my husband, I made the decision that I needed to go.
THIS WAS THE BEST DECISION THAT I HAD EVER MADE!!
It completely turned my life around and I decided there and then that I wanted to become a life coach. I found a course at a University and the rest is history!
I am a wife, mum, step-mum, grandma and great grandma to some awesome human beings, but I still want more …
I have been a coach for 14 years and have had some incredible results, but as I got older, I decided I wanted to help ladies (older like myself) to become successful in business.
- I want older women to feel appreciated for what they can offer and the results they get in their businesses.
- I want older ladies to feel on a par with the younger generations in their offers.
- I want the ‘more mature’ (Eww) female to realise that she has exactly what it takes to run a successful business and be completely happy in her own skin.
So, that’s the long and the short of me ladies!
One thing I will say though, is that I’ve continued to grow and grow, investing in myself and my business.
If I feel I need something, or am missing something, I will invest in myself, by either getting a coach, a course or a person to help in what I need, in order to get me to where I want to be next. I used to have thoughts of “I can’t afford it”, but I soon realised that if it was what I needed, then how could I not afford it? How would I be able to move forward if I thought I wasn’t worth the investment?
So, even though I’m a ‘stiff upper-lipped’ Brit, I will not let that stop me from being open in my quest to help as many ladies as possible to realise their own dreams.
